Stockbridge papers, 1735-1916.

Collection consists of material relating to the relocation of Stockbridge Indians from Massachusetts and New York to Wisconsin. Papers are correspondence with Office of Indian Affairs, officials of the United States Government, attorneys, and others. Also, contracts, power of attorney, tribal and property records. Indentures concern acts passed by State of New York. Some material refers to Stockbridge Tribe's claim for settlement concerning their removal from land in New York State, 1903-1916. Also, Congressional reports and acts, annual reports of Indian affairs for Michigan, and reports of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. A list compiled in 1916 records claims to annuity and lists individuals, birth and death dates, heirs, year entitled, and amount of note.
